Joni Haastrup was a good friend of Fela Kuti, but also a musical rival. Since Fela led Afrobeat, Joni created a style he calls Afro-Funk, focused less on politics and more about awareness/spirituality. Joni toured the UK with Ginger Baker of Cream before starting his own band MonoMono in 1972.
